Cases are lost for any number of reasons. And when you lose, there are just two options – quit or appeal. If you were interested in quitting, you would not have taken your case as far as you did. You are reading this because you want to, or need to, to appeal.

Donald Doherty has developed a practice with a focus on appeals. The nature of the cases at the core of our practice – class actions and cases against the government – are the very reason we have developed this specialized appellate practice. Large companies and the government never give up. There is always an appeal. Therefore, we spend much of time addressing appeals.

A good trial attorney is not necessarily a good appellate attorney. In fact, many trial attorneys have turned to us to prepare and argue their appeals. Appeals have tight deadlines and specialized procedures. Appellate courts consider a narrower range of issues than a trial court. Arguments presented to the appellate courts must simultaneously deal with legal technicalities and contemplate the “bigger picture."

We undertake the following types of appeals through New Jersey state courts and all federal courts nationwide:

- All civil cases being appealed from a trial court
- Select family and criminal cases being appealed from a trial court
- Municipal court matters being appealed to the Superior Court
- Zoning/Planning Board and local government decisions being appealed to the Superior Court

Depending on the nature of the case we are open to several types of fees arrangements. Contingency arrangements are often available.
